CAF: dedicated to building a brighter future for Chile, one child at a time

The Chilean American Foundation (CAF) is a non-profit, non-political, and autonomous organization chartered in Washington, D.C. in 1990 to provide financial support for small social projects in Chile. The Internal Revenue Service recognizes it as a tax deductible organization.

Its members are Chileans and friends of Chile who reside in the United States, and its staff is composed of volunteers within the Chilean community in the Washington DC metropolitan area. Both the Embassy of Chile in the United States and the Permanent Mission of Chile to the Organization of American States (OAS) lend CAF their support.

The recipients of CAF's yearly donations are small institutions that provide education, healthcare, vocational training, or welfare to the most disadvantaged children and youngsters in Chile. Our aim is to make a small difference in their lives, to help them better themselves, and to keep them out of harm's way.

Chilean Earthquake Relief
The Chilean-American Foundation expresses it deepest sympathy for those affected by the widespread destruction of the recent earthquake that affected large portions of the Chilean population. We hope that all of you who have relatives in Chile have found them well. The devastation throughout much of Chile has been extensive and the needs for immediate aid and long-term reconstruction are great.

The Chilean government has set up an account in the United States with Bank of America for those wishing to contribute to that effort.

The Chilean American Foundation will continue its ongoing work supporting Chilean children in need –including addressing needs due to damage and disruption caused by the earthquake. We have been assessing the effects of the earthquake and the extent of damage the projects we support. We will inform you on those assessments as soon as they are completed. In the meantime we share with you th at El Umbral located in Maipu lost its computers that the children use in an after-school program.
