Fundación de Beneficiencia Rescate (ex-Gente para un Amor Nuevo) - $6,000
Since 1993 this organization has provided integrated social services to young men who live with HIV-AIDS in Santiago - providing them with shelter, counseling, medicines, food, and a network support to return to work. Our donation will finance a project to rescue boys from socially-at-risk groups between ages 8 and 16. The focus of the effort is on boys involved in sexual commerce, who are continuously abused psychologically as well as physically, and have a great risk of contracting HIV-AIDS.
Grupo de Apoyo Nuevo Amanecer - $5,600
Started in 1994 to help cocaine addicts in the community of Lo Espejo, this organization currently organizes group workshops for various purposes such as how to survive with a drug-addict relative. Our donation will finance the continuation of a program to assist children between the ages of 4 and 13, in whose family there is at least one case of drug addiction. Children participate in educational activities and games to allow them to know their inner selves better, to discover and reflect more on who they are, and to build the confidence they need to make better choices for themselves as they grow up.
Corporación de Educación y Desarrollo Popular "El Trampolín" - $5,700
Since 1993 "El Trampolín" has offered cultural, educational, health and legal services to low-income neighborhoods in the community of Maipú. The project financed by our donation will continue a "Ludoteca" program for children between the ages of 6 and 16, after-school hours and/or in lieu of the school they have dropped out from. This program provides a place where the children can go to ameliorate, prevent, or neutralize the negative effects of their family environment. Guided games and other activities motivate their imagination, help them develop their creativity, wake up their intelligence, and make up for some years of missed school while, at the same time, helping them overcome frustrations associated with their adolescence.
Corporación Programa Poblacional de Servicios "La Caleta" - $5,700
This organization began in 1986 with an initial objective of treating children in Santiago who were addicted to inhaling construction glue. As it developed, it expanded its goals to include the integration of young people in the current activities of their communities. Among the new activities were the training of volunteer leaders and the development of micro-social networks to provide community support. Our donation will allow the continuation of a program of training for leaders between the ages of 15 and 26. These leaders will join a group of around 900 youths in other communities with expanded knowledge and skills to support their communities through live and online meetings and conferences.
