Corporación CreArte – US$ 5.000
Corporación CreArte was established in 1999 to work at developing the creativity, art expression and self esteem among socially-at-risk children ages 6 to 14 through art workshops lead by a permanent group of volunteer university students. The project financed "Improving the Self Esteem and Creativity of Children at Social Risk: Strengthening the Tools and Community Involvement" will try to reach 1,200 children of Municipal Schools of the greater Santiago Area that have been rated low in educational achievement and are located in highly socially-at-risk communities. Initially, volunteer youths who will be monitors will be trained on how to organize the workshops and how to connect with children, and CreArte will purchase all crafting material. Then, the monitors and children will work throughout the year to end with an exhibition organized with the support of the whole community.
Centro de Estudios y Atención al Niño y la Mujer (CEANIM) – US$ 5.000
The Centro de Estudios y Atención del niño y la Mujer, CEANIM, is a nonprofit corporation established in 1979 to aid socially-at-risk children of the social sectors most at risk in the greater Santiago area. The project "Strengthening the Processes of Education and Growth" to be carried out in the Municipality of Cerro Navia will focus on developing in children the skills to reinforce their self-esteem. To achieve this a group of 15 youths ages 15 to 18 will be instructed as monitors in arts and crafts. In turn, these teenagers, serving as role models, will offer workshops for 40 younger children ages 3 to 14. At the end of the year, an exhibition will be organized with the participation of parents, teachers, friends and Municipal authorities to display story books and art work made by the children.
Corporación de Educación y Desarrollo Popular "El Trampolín" – US$ 5.000
Corporation El Trampolín started its activities in 1993 in the Municipality of Maipú and this year they are receving financing from the Foundation for the third time. El Trampolín has a group of volunteers from the community and professionals who lead the programs they carry out. The project is called "Strengthening children’s involvement and child-youth development" and aims at providing attention to around 125 children and youngsters aged 7 to 16 who live in socially-at-risk environments. The project considers 12 months of activities in entertaining-cultural workshops where they will use their free time in discussing their personal maturity process, learning skills to become leaders, all of which are seeking to offer – with the psico-social support of the professionals leading the project – counsel children, joungsters, and parents who have family relation difficulties. Likewise, volunteers and professionals who are volunteers from the community, will begin contacting a network of support institutions to optimize the volunteers organization within the community and to carry out promotional campaigns for support of El Trampolin’s project for the children.
Fundación Cerro Navia Joven – US$ 5.000
This organization was created in 1994 to aid very vulnerable and socially at-risk children and youth in the municipality of Cerro Navia. The program "Strengthening Adolescent Motherhood" will provide, for the third year, education and counseling services to a new group of 60 teenage mothers ages 13 to 18. The girls will work throughout the year with 12 volunteer monitors, individually and in group workshops, making personal plans about accepting their personal and family situation as teenage mothers, learning about caring for their children and about their social life. As the primary goal this year will be to finish their high school they will receive support in reviewing school material and getting basic school kits. Additionally, the monitors will receive training through workshops with outside professionals about their role in the program and how to better coordinate and reinforce its objectives.
