Executing Institution: Corporación Siempre Contigo
Project Title: “Anti Bullying Brigades”
Location: San Miguel, Santiago
Grant Value: USD 4,000
This innovative project addresses a growing problem in educational facilities in Chile: bullying. Corporacion Siempre Contigo implements the Anti-Bullying Brigades project in selected schools, building upon its beneficiaries that have attention deficit disorder. As children with attention deficit disorder are more likely to be targeted by bullies, the project will train 15 of its
beneficiaries to be agents and apply conflict resolution techniques, in coordination with parents and teachers. Using this approach, the project will reduce bullying activity and actively involve students, especially those with attention deficit disorder, in the process to improve their own social skills.
Executing Institution: “El Umbral” Centro de Apoyo Juvenil
Project Title: In school, everything is possible!
Location: Maipú, Santiago
Grant Value: USD 4,000
The project works directly with 60 school-age children and youth, from the most socially conflicting areas of Maipu. Beneficiaries are selected based on their social vulnerability, including victims of home-based violence, drug consumption, or participation in street-gangs. For this purpose, the project offers three after-school workshops per week that include both academic and recreational activities. Sessions last 2 hours and are followed by traditional Chilean “onces” (evening tea) for healthy social interaction. The objective of this project is to motivate the students to reach high and sustained grades in school as well as to foster the adoption of constructive values and respect for each other.
Executing Institution: Comité por el Arte, la Cultura y Educación Tactoimagen
Project Title: “Yo y mi reflejo”
Location: Maipú, Santiago
Grant Value: USD 3,500
Tactoimagen is a group of young adult professionals that have combined differential educational and visual arts to reproduce and create works of art that can be appreciated through touch, especially for visually impaired children and youths. Tactoimagen actively works with the poorest communities in Santiago, not only with disabled, but also with other underprivileged and socially vulnerable children. The project will help finance teacher training in art therapy, ambulatory exhibits, and 5 major workshops with children and youths to develop art and share with others, reaching close to 500 beneficiaries. Through these activities the children will learn what it is to be visually impaired and they will also have an opportunity to heal their frustrations and negative feelings through their own works of art.
